SURGE 2 Project is in Peniche, Portugal, and is designated the FOAK (First of a Kind) project and is designed to meet ESB’s WestWave requirements. Manufacturing of the main components began in 2016 and were successfully sourced globally from Canada, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and UK; the main subsystems are the foundation, power-take-off, panel and panel bearings. The project was financed by AW-Energy and a loan from Business Finland. Rigorous certification milestones were successfully completed to demonstrate AW-Energy’s commitment to best practices, and to ensure the safety and reliability of the technology as a viable, commercially-acceptable and proven product for investors.
