Surge Demo 2012

The SURGE project (Simple Underwater Generation of Renewable Energy) was an FP7 funded project (Grant agreement ID: 239496) led by AW-Energy. The project budget was € 5 373 000 with an EU contribution of € 2 997 000. The project partners were Bosch Rexroth AG from Germany and from Portugal -Estaleiros Navais de Peniche, S.A. Eneolica Energias e Ambiente SA, WAVEC/Offshore Renewables – Centro De Energia Offshore Associacao, Instituto Hidrografico, and Municipio de Peniche.
The consortium, led by AW-Energy, built and deployed a wave energy converter consisting of three devices in a single platform. The project started on the 5 October 2009 and ended on the 4 October 2013. The project successfully produced electricity to the grid, thus successfully demonstrating the potential of the technology.
